Declarations, Rules, & Guidelines
- We are committed to the proposition that the pursuit of truth is more important than being or staying comfortable in any particular belief or belief system.
- We are committed to the promotion and implementation of critical thinking, scientific skepticism, and sound reasoning throughout society and the world.
- We believe that the solutions to the world’s problems will be found (if they can be found) within human reason, the scientific method, and human solidary, and not in superstitious beliefs or claims to the supernatural or miraculous.
- We advocate for free-inquiry, freethinking, and encourage skeptical thought.
- We believe the use of logic, sound reasoning, and the proper assessment of evidence (i.e. – science in a broad sense) is the single most reliable tool that mankind has for determining what is most likely true about reality, and the cosmos, from what is most likely not true.
- We do not believe that arguments, alone or in and of themselves, are sufficient to demonstrate, or warrant belief in, the supernatural or miraculous.
- We treat human beings with general respect regardless of race, ethnicity, country of origin, nationality, gender identity, language preference, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation.
- We are generally polite whenever possible with other human beings.
- We care whether or not our beliefs accurately map to reality and work to minimize irrational thinking patterns, logically fallacious reasoning, and cognitive biases in thinking and reasoning.
- We stand against cult-like tribalism and dogmatic adherence to “doctrine”.
- We hold our beliefs tentatively, with an open-hand, and are open to rational correction or change since we value truth, if it can be found.
- We respect, and keep confidential, personal information of those we meet, get to know, or find (whether online or elsewhere).
- We do not sell or share private information pertaining to people, organizations, or entities.
